In loving memory of Steve Moulds, Napa Valley community leader and grape grower
Steve was involved in causes and efforts near and dear to his heart, dedicating hours and years to boards such as the Oak Knoll District of Napa Valley appellation, the Napa Valley Grapegrowers (NVG), where he joined the Board of Directors and served as President, and the Napa Valley Farmworker Foundation (FWF), where he served as President until June 2021.
Beyond his commitment to grape growing, Steve was a strong believer in community volunteerism. He stepped forward and immersed himself in Napa County civic, philanthropic, political and professional endeavors, including: the Napa County Housing Commission, where he and others worked to provide affordable housing for farmworkers; FFA St Helena High School, where he was a strong supporter; Men Who Give a Damn; Festival Napa Valley; and he could always be found with his paddle raised at the annual Napa County Livestock Auction, supporting the children in the 4H, FFA, and Ag for Youth programs. The meat from his purchases would always be donated to the Napa County Farmworker Housing Centers.
Steve was born in Chicago and was raised in Palo Alto and Los Altos, California. Before he and wife Betsy arrived in the Napa Valley in 2000 to establish Moulds Family Vineyard, Steve enjoyed a career in commercial real estate as an early member of Silicon Valley firm Cornish & Carey (C&C), helping C&C become the leader in the tech market from a representation standpoint.
His time in the Peace Corps in Honduras and subsequent experience as a social worker fostered Steve’s deep concern for the plight of immigrants and a life spent helping anyone committed to dreams of a better life and a better world. He set a great example for his 2 children, Reed Moulds and Hayden Schmidter, and 5 grandchildren: Hunter, Jackson, Athena, Miles & Evelyn.
One of Steve's legacy goals was to further strengthen NVG and the FWF's presence in Napa Valley by building a permanent home for both organizations. Donations made in his honor will support this dream and make the Napa Valley Grapegrowers & Napa Valley Farmworker Foundation offices in Oakville, CA a reality.
